GHAZIABAD: Motorists from dozens of colonies and offices along the Hapur Road can now breathe a sigh of relief, as heavy vehicles such as buses and trucks are no longer allowed to enter a 5km stretch from Chungi crossing to the Dasna railway over bridge.
The route is being used by thousands of people everyday for going to the income tax and passport offices, the CBI Training Academy, as well as residents of Kamla Nehru Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Govindpuram and Swarn Jayanti Puram.
Police said that the heavy vehicular traffic has been diverted away from this stretch and the diversion, from 7 am to 9 pm daily, will increase the distance of the detouring by 7 km.
"All the heavy vehicular traffic from the direction of the district collectorate will now have to turn right towards Diamond Palace and go to Dasna via the flyover and then the NH-24," traffic police inspector Anil Kumar Yadav said.
He added, "Similarly, vehicles coming towards the collectorate from over the Dasna railway over bridge will now have to take NH-24. And these vehicles will enter the city areas via the Kavi Nagar flyover and Diamond Palace. The entire arrangement will be in place from 7 am to 9 pm daily."
Meanwhile, a grade separator will also soon be built to take the traffic from the side of the collectorate to the Kamla Nagar side over the Hapur Chungi crossing. "This will further decongest the Hapur Chungi crossing. The work on the grade separator will begin any day now," said Yadav.
